You’ve surely seen it among the most indie celebrities, on runways, and in photos of influencers. Well, perhaps the time has come for you yourself to don the hottest vintage trend of the moment: the Souvenir Jacket or, as we call it in our stores, the Okinawa Jacket. This jacket, which has changed styles over the years, is based on something very distinctive: embroidery featuring one or several elements of Japanese inspiration. The history of the Souvenir Jacket is quite fascinating. It was originally created by American soldiers. The young men who had been fighting during World War II began to hand-sew traditional Japanese designs on the backs of their jackets to commemorate their time in Japan. All this happened during the post-war occupation of Japan. The troops took this jacket home, hence the name of the garment. Since then, the Okinawa has appeared countless times in movies, commercials, music videos, fashion runways… maintaining its original spirit. That is, a symbolic representation of rebellion.
